Mirakl Platform Connector for Shopify
Definition
On 1 July 2025, Mirakl announced an expanded partnership with Shopify. This connector is the centerpiece of that announcement, built to let enterprises launch and scale a marketplace on their own Shopify store. Mirakl builds and maintains it, and the operator (the marketplace owner) installs and configures it on the Shopify store. Shopify Plus only. What it syncs, and in which direction:
| Data | Direction | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Catalog structure | Mirakl → Shopify | Categories, attributes and collections are created in Shopify |
| Products and variants | Mirakl → Shopify / Shopify → Mirakl | Seller products are imported as Shopify products. The operator's own catalog is exported to Mirakl |
| Offers (price and stock) | Mirakl → Shopify | Updated in real time |
| Seller information | Mirakl → Shopify | Seller and offer data is stored in Shopify metafields |
| Checkout verification | Mirakl → Shopify | Queried at purchase time so the latest price, stock and shipping cost apply |
| Orders | Shopify → Mirakl | Orders are split per seller and handed to Mirakl's order flow |
Operator goods (1P) and seller goods (3P) can sit in one cart, and several sellers can offer the same product. Seller products appear in Shopify's native search. Both theme-based and headless storefronts are supported.
Background
Until now, building a marketplace on Shopify meant developing product, offer and order integrations against Mirakl's Operator API one by one, which took months. Mirakl states that the connector cuts integration effort by up to 80 percent. Behind the release are Shopify's push into the enterprise segment and the fact that, for retailers, running a marketplace has become a third option alongside selling on malls and running a first-party store. Japan already has a live example of a first-party store built on Shopify running alongside a Mirakl marketplace.
Not to be confused with the "Mirakl Connect" app
The Shopify App Store has carried an app called "Mirakl Connect", published by Mirakl since 2020. It points the other way: a Shopify merchant, acting as a seller, uses it to sync its own products, inventory and prices to Mirakl-powered marketplaces and to handle the resulting orders in the Shopify admin. The press release positions Platform Connector for Shopify as an extension of that existing seller-side integration to the operator side, the side that turns a store into a marketplace. A simple way to keep them apart: Mirakl Connect puts Shopify products onto marketplaces; Platform Connector turns a Shopify store into one.
Three points come up when evaluating it. Payments and settlement: the operator is the seller of record toward the buyer, so payment is collected through the store's normal payment methods, Shopify Payments included. Sellers are then paid the settlement amount that Mirakl calculates net of commission, typically by bank transfer, which means the operator needs an accounting and payout process for it. Catalog: seller products become Shopify products, which affects product counts, search and collection design. Storefront: in a headless build, offer and seller data has to be read from metafields and rendered. Commission calculation and settlement amounts stay on the Mirakl side and never enter Shopify.
Flagship's Involvement
We are Japan's first Mirakl Solution Partner and were certified as Japan's first Shopify Plus Partner in 2018. For operators launching a marketplace on Shopify, we compare the connector-based setup with a custom integration against their requirements, and support the design through payments, catalog and storefront. On the seller side, we provide Connector for Mirakl, which links order management systems to Mirakl, so we cover both ends: the operator's storefront integration and the seller's back-office integration. Our write-up from the release is in the related column.
