Headless Commerce
Definition
An architecture that separates the backend — inventory, orders, and payments on Shopify — from the frontend, which can be built with any UI technology.
Background
Teams adopt it when they need fully customized brand experiences, CMS-driven builds, or the same data across multiple channels. The trade-off is higher operating cost and complexity compared with standard Shopify themes.
Flagship's Involvement
We maintain clear decision criteria — based on requirements, scale, and operations — for advising clients whether to go headless or whether an OS 2.0 theme is sufficient.
